DFI - Day 2 Workflow

Connecting with Manaiakalani

Today we started looking at the AKO aspect of Learn Create Share and the goals of moving from analogue to digital.   It is about increasing teacher effectiveness and accelerating learner outcomes.  It is important to keep reevaluating and looking at what is working, and asking ourselves what is effective practice and how do we recognise it in the digital learning environment.

Recognise effective practice - key messages:

The teacher enables learning in the digital world:

RECOGNISE - Share with others through sites, blogs to be connected and visible

AMPLIFY - Amplify effective practice

TURBOCHARGE - Transform the way we learn, offer new experiences and opportunities.

DEEP DIVE - Taming our Tabs

I always seem to have a ton of tabs open, it is a source of amusement to my students... Today I discovered Toby! A sort of one stop shop for grouping tabs to open and close at my will. I will endeavor to use this extension to simplify my tab usage!

DEEP DIVE - Google Keep

This was my first time using this extension - Save to Google Keep in a single click!

Found a webpage, image, or quote that you want to save for later?
With the Google Keep Chrome Extension, easily save the things  you care about to Keep and
have them synced across all of the platforms that you use

CHALK n TALK - Gmail

Who knew I could change the look of this?  With a few simple changes through the settings, I can change the layout, themes, filters and how I send and archive.  My inbox now looks rather refreshed!

TODAY'S EXPLORE!

This was great to explore and try out with colleagues for the first time. We discovered setting up a meeting through our calendars, and had a practical session. This will be fun to set up with my students to trial in the coming weeks.

Digital Fluency Intensive - Session 1

Today was our first DFI session - Core Business which included a recap of the origins of Manaiakalani, and tips and tricks of using our Drive and Docs to improve work efficiency.  It is impressive to see over time how the Learn, Create, Share model has helped accelerate students learning, but also their engagement.

Today I have discovered ways to streamline my communication, organise my Drive to better suit my planning needs, and discovered a few great add ons that will benefit my students.  While being a reasonably comfortable user of the Google Suite, it was nice to spend some time to consolidate skills.  I especially liked working on my Google Doc which I will share and use with my Literacy group.

This is my 'Journey' document to share with my students.  We are currently working on the Get NZ Writing program.
